My collection of NYCPD firearms is presented here.
The actual collection is a byproduct of my first
goal, which has been to write a book looking at NYCPD small arms
development from 1895 onward. As I took pictures for the book, I found
the easiest
way to capture the images was to simply buy the guns as they became
available. More than one cop went to retire in Florida with an extra
few bucks from my need to get good images.
The book is about 3/4's done. I've given a brief
synopsis of the history of each gun shown here, but for a more detailed
and excruciatingly thorough look at NYCPD armaments, you have to wait
until I can find a publisher.
One question I am often asked is about what guns the
NYCPD issues. Technically, the answer is none, since almost all guns
are privately owned. This is explained more fully
here.
Answers to questions I get most are located (where
else?) in the
Frequently
Asked Questions area.
The NYCPD first adopted a standard arm in 1896. My
goal is to find one of every type of arm issued since then and document
it.
